The 2006 Paritoshik programme to give away the Anil Shah Gram Vikas Paritoshik and the Gram Sangathan Award was held on 21st January 2007 at Ellisbridge Gymkhana. The Chief Guest for the function was Padmabhushan and Padmashri Anna Hazare, pioneer of Ralegaon Siddhi, a successful village development model on Natural Resources Management. He is also credited with the promotion of Right to Information Act in various states of the country.
The Anil Shah Gram Vikas Paritoshik for 2006 was awarded to a small NGO “Lokmitra”, based at Dedhuki village, near Rajkot in Gujarat. The organisation has done exceptional work in developing the Natural Resources of the surrounding villages, created SHGs of women and rural poor people and has promoted formal and non-formal education for children.
The Gram Sangathan award was given to two community based organizations –
- “Khakharia Jalstrav Vikas Mandal”, a Watershed Association promoted by Bhartiya Agro Industries Foundation (BAIF) in Palitana taluka of Bhavnagar district of Saurashtra region. This village institution was awarded for their admirable work on water resources development, water management, agriculture and infrastructure development in the village. As a result of their activities, they could increase their area under irrigation from 50 ha. to 450 ha within a span of seven years. At present this gram sangathan is self-sustained in respect of finance and management.
- “Khetiwadi Vikas Mandal”, promoted by Utthan in the Ambli village of Dhanpur block of Panchamahal district, a tribal region of eastern Gujarat. This award was given for their wonderful work in forest protection and development, watershed development, women’s empowerment and organization. The sangathan could protect over 300 ha. of forest area through community participation.
