DSC's major role has been that of capacity builder of stakeholders, planners and implementers of natural resource management programmes. This called for the need to have its own state of art training centre which can reduce DSC's dependence on outside infrastructure facilities for organizing short and long duration training programs.
With generous support of Pentagon Foundation, a private charitable trust set up by... for acquiring land and long-term loan from Housing Development Finance Corporation of India for building, DSC is able to construct state of art training centre which was inaugurated on 21st February 2004.
DSC's training centre, besides having large training hall which can accommodate up to100 people and two class rooms which can accommodate 30 people each, also have a hostel facility for thirty five persons.
Building for DSC has been designed to address cross culture visitors right from the rural area to the people from overseas. Mr. Manil Patel, ace architect and a well-wisher of the organization designed the building after studying the need of the organization in detail. With his vast experience and interest, he provided continuous guidance for unique design and creation of user-friendly facilities at the centre.
Following is what Mr. Manil Patel has to say on the design of the building;

The activities of DSC as in dealing with irrigation, village resources and agricultural related issues demanded the use of natural materials. Clay Brick walls and RCC in their pure form have been used for the building encasing to preserve the identity of materials and create an indigenous ambience. Even the interiors have been adorned with the same finishes.
A Cohesive introverted work environment with comforts in the office wing and a multifunctional outdoor space for the invitees has been achieved to create a feel at home environment and simultaneously to suit the professional activities.
Maximum use of daylight by means of controlled skylights for the work area and minimizing on the direct opening on external wall are indicative of an energy intelligent building. The clear story section towards the right provides the natural draft ventilation. Induced air is released at the top through the chimney effect. Induced air draft and use of natural light increase the efficiency and bring down the average running costs. Indirect exposure to outside environment also controls heat and dust.
In terms of layout the building has been segregated into four squares, of which two blocks in front comprise of office and administrative activities, the central one acts as a multipurpose plaza and, the end block, in-house guest related activities, namely the guest rooms and dinning space.
The compact office layout provides an ideal work environment without being disturbed by the surroundings, whereas an open central plaza provides a space for informal gathering, workshops, interactions and also functions as an entrance foyer to the seminar hall below. It also functions for the guests as a recreation area, an extension to living space in the evening. Dining facilities adjoining the central space also provides hub for the gatherings.
The guest rooms in the rear wing provide silent abode for the guests. The open terrace at the second floor also acts as an extension to the guest rooms.
The use of exposed brickwork and Nibhada stone to avoid the plaster and coloring, least direct openings, and use of rough Kota stone as a floor material has minimized the construction cost substantially.
